Choosing the fabrics for your next interior design project, or outdoor project for that matter, can be an exciting, but sometimes challenging, process.
At Christal Custom Upholstery we carry an extensive range of fabric samples from which to choose and are always willing to help you achieve the look you desire.
As the name suggests, custom upholstery is our first love and this involves dealing correctly with the furniture beneath the beautiful new fabric. We also design and build custom furniture and headboards for all styles and spaces.
Existing pieces are stripped of all old material (several layers worth in some cases) and the frame is then checked thoroughly and any necessary repairs undertaken; this can involve re-gluing and clamping of 'old joints', re-tying of springs or replacing worn webbing and then, of course, attending to the padding.
The padding involves all areas of the furniture where the frame is concealed, and where a soft touch is required; it also extends to the building up of the arms and seats, backs and cushions etc. which provide the right level of comfort for the customer.
Our workshop is highly visible and readily accessible from the showroom and customer visits are strongly encouraged, either to confirm finishing details or purely out of interest in what lies underneath the cushions upon which we like to sit!
The choice of window treatment can truly add the final touches to a beautiful room and are uniquely designed to compliment the rest of the furnishings and often the period of the home.
Drapes, valances, padded pelmets, fabric blinds and side panels are some of the window coverings which we design and make to fit any variety of windows and different fabrics can also be used to achieve different effects. Blackout lining has also improved immensely over the years and is no longer the heavy and unforgiving cloth of old, now we can have full blackout capability with white lightweight fabric; particularly useful for bedroom drapes.
Silk drapes, made with a protective interlining, and velvets in glorious colours will always have a place in beautiful homes and there are many other wonderful fabrics with excellent properties for a variety of applications including custom bedding and headboards, all of which we can design and make in our own workrooms
